Iveco Bus, CATP (the central office for public transport purchases) and Ile-de-France Mobilités have sealed their collaboration by announcing a record-breaking order: as many as 409 Iveco Urbanway Natural Power will be included in the public transport network of the inner and outer suburbs of the Paris area.

The vehicles are part of a plan to develop a diesel-free transport network: RATP intends to target 2025 with a fleet of two-thirds electric buses and one-third biogas-powered vehicles.

Biogas buses to be delivered between 2020 and 2021

Iveco Bus, CATP and the public transport authority Ile-de-France Mobilités officially confirmed an order for 409 Urbanway Natural Power buses. The biogas-powered vehicles will be delivered between 2020 and 2021 and, as mentioned, will operate in the inner and outer suburbs of the Paris metropolitan area.

The Urbanway NP has a range of up to 400 kilometers and is therefore ideally suited to the requirements of the public transport network of the Greater Paris area.

Biomethane from organic waste

Fueled by biomethane derived from recycled organic waste, the Urbanway NP delivers major environmental benefits, noise reduction and improved air quality. Fine particle emissions are reduced to almost zero and NOx emissions by more than a third, Iveco points out. The Urbanway’s natural gas engine cuts noise level by 50% improving travelling conditions for drivers, passengers and residents alike.

“We are extremely proud that Ile-de-France Mobilités has chosen us to place this order, which confirms the company’s commitment to the energy transition,” commented Stéphane Espinasse, Head of Iveco Bus, adding: “This is yet another recognition of Iveco Bus’s expertise in the field of alternative energy powered vehicles”.
