The electric bus fleet in Berlin is powered by a network of 30 DC fast chargers with a total capacity of over 3MW, supplied by XCHARGE and the utility service company Stromnetz Berlin. And XCHARGE won’t be missing the Busworld 2019 in Brussels, where it will present its new fast chargers tailored for electric buses, including the new version of C6EU with an optional Wing Arm to lighten the weight of cable-handling, and the satellite-designed dual-plug compact DC charger C9 eBus.
Operated by public transportation operator Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) and located in its depot in the northeast of the capital city, the charging station has been powering BVG’s electric bus fleet supplied by Mercedes and Solaris since its commissioning in early 2019.
In June BVG ordered 90 articulated electric buses from Solaris. A procurement that follows the 15 units supply ordered one year ago and the articulated bus batch (15 units as well) bought in March 2019. Further 5 Solaris ebuses are running in Berlin since a few years. Also 15 Mercedes eCitaro are currently on delivery.
12 GWh of power from XCHARGE
Today, more than 30,000 charging points manufactured by XCHARGE are operating in China, Europe, and Australia, dispensing over 12 GWh of power every month, says the company.
The products are designed on a modular basis to cope with future capacity expansions. With OTA functions including remote monitoring and its trouble-free maintenance system, the entire solution is tailored to improve the bus fleet charging efficiency while optimizing the energy consumption.
An R&D work with Valeo
Based in Germany, the company XCHARGE has also started the R&D in V2G technology with Valeo since 2017. The company is now offering PTB-ready product, complying to the German Weights and Measures Laws verifiable legally compliant (Eichrecht), and has launched the 360 kW liquid-cooled high-power charger recently.
“We are pleased to offer a more flexible charging solution tailored to clients’ needs”, said Simon Hou, COO and Co-founder of XCHARGE. “Years of solution experience supporting some of the busiest charging stations in the world has helped us stand out.” XCHARGE’s chargers have recorded an industry high usage rate at 87%.
