It was August last year when Pelican Bus & Coach, Yutong’s UK dealer, announced the launch of a zero-emission midibus, the Yutong E9. That is, an e-bus a scant 9 meters (8.94 m to be exact) by a width of 2.42 meters, ideal for urban and suburban applications, equipped with 255 kWh batteries and capable of carrying up to 62 passengers in total.

Pelican launches the 9-meter e-bus Yutong E9 in the UK

Pelican have announced during August that they are launching a new, smaller zero emission vehicle, named Yutong E9. The E9 has an overall length of 8.94 metre, and a width of 2.42 metre. The vehicle will be highly manoeuvrable, and ideal for both rural and urban applications, the dealer points out. …

Now on the launch pad, with arrival expected in the next few months, is its big brother E9L, with a length of 9.5 meters, single door and wheelchair access via the front door. Eleven examples have already been ordered.

Ian Downie, Head of Yutong Sales at Pelican, commented: «Passengers really appreciated the ease of loading on the E9, particular wheelchair users with direct access to the wheelchair area. Feedback from customers also requested a more traditional access to the vehicle, and we are delighted to bring this new version to the UK. It can be used for conventional bus operations, and with its E9 relation, offers even more flexibility for demand response transport as well. It has the fit and finish of a full size bus, but in a midibus envelope. Pelican now have the most comprehensive product range of zero emission vehicles available in the UK, with midibuses, full sized single decks, double decks, airside buses and the only zero emission coach».
