Alexander Dennis has delivered another nine Enviro500EV zero-emission double deck buses to Hong Kong’s MTR Corporation.
The buses are part of a larger order for 35 next-generation Enviro500EV, awarded in late 2023. A pre-production vehicle entered service in June 2024 as the Corporation’s first electric bus, with additional vehicles following in January 2025 ahead of the delivery of the remaining throughout this year and next, the manufacturer says.
Alexander Dennis is working on developing the next generation of the Enviro200EV single decker range, which will be launched this year.
Alexander Dennis e-buses for Hong Kong
MTR Corporation provides feeder bus services to Hong Kong’s Mass Transit Railway urban rail system for residents in the Northwest New Territories, carrying a daily average of over 160,000 passengers with a fleet of over 170 buses.
The Enviro500EV has been fully designed in-house by Alexander Dennis’s engineering team as part of the manufacturer’s next generation of zero-emission buses. Power is transmitted through the heavy-duty Voith Electrical Drive System, at 410kW peak and 310kW continuous output. 472kWh batteries are sourced from Polish Impact.
In MTR Corporation’s specification, the 12m long double deckers seat 86 passengers and have room for a wheelchair user. All seats are fitted with three-point belts.
Andy Boulton, Managing Director Asia Pacific for Alexander Dennis, said: “Our next-generation Enviro500EV has been designed from the ground up for the demands of Hong Kong’s world class transport system to deliver sizeable passenger capacity alongside operational flexibility. We’re honoured to be the MTR Corporation’s partner for its bus fleet electrification and are delighted to continue the delivery of this major contract.”
