These are not the first ever electric buses to join Asf Autolinee‘s fleet, as in the past few months the operator had welcomed the first two into the family. Earlier today we were invited to attend the unveiling of 23 Yutong e-buses (through Italian dealer Powerbus, owned by Massimo Fiorese) that will enable four city lines to be fully electrified: these are lines 1, 2, 6 and 11.

Yutong’s electric buses for Asf Como

These are the Chinese manufacturer’s E12 and E10 models: to be exact, there are 14 10.9-meter and 9 12.17-meter battery-powered buses. They have a total capacity of 79 and 81 seats, a manual ramp is provided to allow wheelchairs to get on and off, and an assisted braking system (Ldsw) is provided. The batteries? The capacity is 422 kWh.

The new vehicles are recognizable by their new livery – on indication of Regione Lombardia – white, with a long green arrow along the sides, and will be placed in ASF depots in Tavernola and Lazzago, where, in this first phase, the first charging columns will be activated: each vehicle has an average charging time of 5 hours.

The electrification of the ASF fleet will avoid emitting 1,300 tons/year of CO2. To absorb this amount of carbon dioxide would require a forest area equal to 3,575 soccer fields.
