Public transport operator AUVASA (Autobuses Urbanos de Valladolid) has signed a framework agreement with Irizar e-mobility for 30 Irizar ie tram model zero-emissions buses and charging infrastructure for them.

Delivery of those units will be spread out over two years, with the first eleven units to be delivered in late 2022. They will be the first 18 metre long zero-emissions articulated buses to be included in the lines where that kind of vehicle is currently on the road.

630 kWh on board for Irizar e-buses headed to Valladolid

The vehicles that Irizar e-mobility will provide will be powered by latest generation batteries with a capacity of 630 kWh of on board energy. And they will have a double charging system, consisting of an inverted pantograph and smart plug-in charging in the garage, manufactured by Jema Energy, an Irizar Group company.

With the inverted pantograph charging system, communication between the bus and the charger is established when a bus arrives at the garage and the pantograph is automatically lowered. The system is compatible with practically all electric buses on the market and it makes the daily vehicle charging process easier.

The bus, in the configuration chosen in Valladolid, has 43 seats, 3 wheelchair areas and 4 PRM seats and capacity to transport up to 105 passengers. In addition, it has CO2 metres inside and a multimedia and information system with 29″ screens and USB charging ports.

The bus has 4 doors for easy access and fluid traffic both inside and out. And to improve safety and ensure passengers have a comfortable trip the buses will have cameras instead of rear view mirrors that increase forward, side and rear visibility, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), protection for pedestrians and cyclists, and closed circuit television circuits (CCTV) that monitor the cabinet.

Irizar electric buses for Valladolid

This Monday Irizar e-mobility was visited by Óscar Puente, Mayor of Valladolid; Luis Ángel Vélez, Councilman for Mobility and Urban Space of the City of Valladolid; and Álvaro Fernández, Managing Director of AUVASA. During the visit, the members of the City of Valladolid, AUVASA and Irizar e-mobility were able to go over the final details and specifications of the vehicles before starting production of the first units and visit the facilities and production line.

“We’re extremely proud of the trust that AUVASA and the city of Valladolid has put in us to start the electric transformation of their fleet. They decided to choose the Irizar ie tram. It’s a bus that, because of its modern and innovative design, gives the city a unique appeal at the same time it maximises comfort, accessibility and safety for drivers and passengers. The low CO2 and noise emissions and the great passenger experience make the Irizar ie tram an especially suitable bus for using in urban centres.” adds Txema Otero, Commercial Director for Spain and Portugal of Irizar e-mobility.
