The Polish market asks for further e-buses, Solaris to provide two 8.9 vehicles in Bolesławiec. The domestic manufacturer has secured another contract for the delivery of electric buses on the Polish market. The representatives of Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. have signed a contract with the mayor of the city of Bolesławiec for the delivery of two electric 8.9 meter long buses and two stationary chargers. Worth gross nearly 4.8 million PLN (slightly over 1 million euros), the contract will be carried out in February 2021.
Bolesławiec is the 28th Polish city where the battery buses of Solaris will be in use. Since the première of its first electric bus Solaris has supplied or secured orders for nearly 900 battery buses from customers in 18 countries, including for over 350 vehicles in Poland.
In the country a total of 197 battery-electric buses (trolleybuses excluded) have been delivered in the period 2012 – 2019, according to figures coming from Chatrou – CME Solutions.
Central motor for Solaris e-buses in Bolesławiec
Two Urbino 8,9 LE electric will be handed over to the Public Transport Authority (Miejski Zarząd Komunikacji) in Bolesławiec within 11 months from signing the contract.
The ecological battery buses will be propelled by a 160 kW central traction motor. The energy needed to drive the vehicle will be stored in Solaris High Energy batteries with a total capacity of 160 kWh and it will be supplemented via a plug-in connector.
Apart from buses Solaris will also deliver charging devices. One of two chargers ordered will feature two modes of operation. Depending on customer needs, it will enable the concurrent recharging of two buses with a charging power of 40 kW or of a one bus with a charging power of 80 kW.
Over 58 passenger on board in Bolesławiec
According to the order placed, the Solaris Urbino 8,9 LE electric vehicles will be able to carry over 58 passengers at a time, including 20 sitting on seats. The buses will feature among others destination displays adapted to the needs of visually impaired passengers and wheelchair ramps. The passenger compartment will not lack USB ports by means of which passengers will be able to charge their mobile devices. By order of the contracting authority, the Polish producer will also install a passenger information system comprising, i.a., a video surveillance system and a fire detection and extinguishing system.
40 per cent of the production has alternative drive
Solaris announced that in 2019 it has achieved its biggest ever sales volume. All in all, the manufacturer has supplied 1,487 vehicles (a record: the previous best result occurred in 2017 and was by nearly 100 buses lower). Furthermore, Solaris saw record sales revenues of PLN 2.6 billion in 2019 (some 604 million euros). This represents a climb by nearly 40% year-on-year, the manufacturer highlights. For 2020, the firm is setting itself ambitious sales targets: Solaris points out that this year will deliver over 500 electric buses.
