Wrightbus has secured a new order for hydrogen-powered (single-decker) buses in Europe, in Germany: requesting them from Saarbahn GmbH , which has ordered Kite Hydroliners FCEV, the first of which will be delivered during 2024.

Saarbahn transports about 43.7 million passengers by road and rail each year, and its order follows others in the country from West Verkehr and Regionalverkehr Köln GmbH for 12 and 60 Kite Hydroliners, respectively. A 12-meter-long model with capacity for 90 passengers, powered by Voith engine, NMC batteries from Forsee Power, and 35/50 kilogram capacity.

Additional contracts for 51 coaches from two other customers have already been signed in 2024.

As we wrote on Feb. 23, the Ballymena Northern Ireland-based manufacturer is working on the market launch (set for 2026) of a hydrogen-powered fuel cell coach. Wrightbus ranked (surprisingly) fourth in the European BEV bus market in 2023, with 469 registered units.
