It’s the largest ever framework agreement for hydrogen buses in France. CTS-Compagnie des Transports Strasbourgeois, has awarded CaetanoBus a framework agreement to supply 60 hydrogen-powered electric buses over the next five years. The H2.City Gold units will be equipped with Toyota’s new generation of fuel cells.

CaetanoBus Toyota’s H2.City Gold

The H2.City Gold, co-branded by CaetanoBus and Toyota, is a standard low-floor light bus with an aluminum body that, starting in 2024, will be equipped with the next generation Toyota Fuel Cell stack with a power rating of 70 kW. The buses are also equipped with a small LTO battery pack with a capacity of 44 kWh and a powertrain with a peak power output of 180 kW. This is the perfect combination to ensure the highest efficiency in the market. The H2.City Gold will offer a range of more than 500 km, managing to match the range of conventional diesel buses on a single refueling.

Hydrogen buses for the French market

The French hydrogen bus market has developed a lot recently and is becoming one of the most relevant in Europe. The H2.City Gold, co-branded by CaetanoBus and Toyota, is starting to be successful in France, as the first units in this country are already in operation with Ratp in La Roche-Sur from 2022 and the city of Les Sables d’Olonne will receive its first units later this year. At the end of 2022, the H2.City Gold was also selected to be part of the catalog of Catp – Centrale d’Achat du Transport Public. In addition, an H2.City Gold demonstration bus is conducting demonstrations in several French cities, and feedback from bus operators, drivers and passengers has been extremely positive.
