Solaris Bus & Coach has been selected to supply 22 Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen buses to Île-de-France Mobilités following a tender supported by CATP (Centrale d’Achat du Transport Public). The buses will play their part within a hydrogen pilot project by Île-de-France Mobilités.

Also today, Cologne operator RVK announced that it has awarded Solaris a fourth order for fuel cell buses, with delivery of 20 units expected by end 2025.

This new contract confirms Solaris’ leadership in the European market for hydrogen and zero-emission vehicles. Only in 2023, 44.5% of all hydrogen buses registered in Europe were Solaris vehicles.

Solaris to deliver hydrogen buses in Paris area

Solaris recenlty shared, releasing the 2023 results of the company, that vehicle sales reached 1,456 units (-2.4 per cent on 2022, when the Polish company sold 1,492 units), marking however an 18% growth in revenue compared to the previous year (up to 819 million euros). The company solidified its leading position in the zero-emission bus market (taking into account both BEV and FCEV buses, as MAN qualified as leader in the battery-electric bus market), holding a 15.2% share and maintaining its top spot since 2012 with a cumulative 14.5% market share.

The aim of the tender promoted by CATP for Île-de-France Mobilités was to evaluate the potential of hydrogen technology for the region’s public transport system. This trial is part of the initiatives and investments undertaken since 2018 to renew the entire bus fleet in Île-de-France as part of the most ambitious and fastest renewal programme in Europe.

“We are deeply grateful and excited for this opportunity, and would like to thank Île-de-France Mobilités and the CATP for their confidence in us. Our commitment to the development of zero-emission technologies is unwavering, and this project provides an excellent platform to demonstrate our capabilities in the field of electric mobility,” says Brice Bonavia, Business Director for the French market, Solaris Bus & Coach.
