The Chinese bus export recorded a 22.27% year-on-year increase in the first two months of 2025. According to recent data reported by Chinabuses, a total of 8,808 large, medium, and light buses were exported from January to February. Golden Dragon, King Long and Zhongtong held the top positions. The report doesn’t provide details about the number of zero emission buses exported.

In the whole 2024 the overall volume of buses exported from China reached around 60,000 units, a quarter of those being zero emission.

China export of buses: light buses booming

In that period, China exported 4,318 large buses, a slight increase of 0.33% year-on-year; 1,495 medium buses, up 22.74% year-on-year; and 2,995 light buses, marking a significant increase of 78.06% year-on-year. Light buses showed the most impressive growth, while large buses experienced only marginal growth.

Chinabuses notes that “From January to February 2025, the cumulative export volume of city buses was 2,195 units, down 32.19% year-on-year. Specifically, the export volume of large city buses was 1,724 units, down 33.13% year-on-year; medium city buses was 420 units, down 24.19% year-on-year; and light city buses was 51 units, down 51.43% year-on-year”.

Golden Dragon emerged as the top exporter in the first two months of 2025, with 2,074 units shipped—an impressive +235.06% year-on-year increase. King Long followed with 1,278 units, reflecting 41.84% growth, while Zhongtong secured third place with 968 units. Notably, Higer and Yutong rounded out the top five, with export volumes of 803 and 739 units, respectively.

The top ten exporters also included BYD, JMC Jingma, Foton AUV, Ankai Bus, and AsiaStar Bus. Ankai Bus saw a surge of 198.81%, BYD increased by 79.08%, and Foton AUV grew by 46.99%.

Among city bus exporters, BYD retained its leading position, followed by Foton AUV, Zhongtong Bus, Yutong Bus, and Higer. Ankai Bus also maintained a strong presence, while CRRC Electric moved up in the rankings.
