French market registered a 4.9% growth in 2023, a year that saw bus and coach registrations rising up to 5,696, according to data by the Comité des Constructeurs Français d’Automobiles (CCFA) and shared via Linkedin by French trade journalist Francois Gilbert. Market leaders? Easy to say: Comité des Constructeurs Français d’Automobiles and a market share of 46% (without counting the 256 units registered by Heuliez Bus, mentioned apart in CCFA chart).

Second place for Mercedes-Benz: 1,164 registrations mean a 20% market share. Third place, lagging well behind the first two, for MAN: 566 units registered in 2023.

Bus and coach market, European countries growing

2023 has been a booming year for the Italian market where after the 2,351 number plates registered during 2022, registrations of buses over 8 ton hit the figure of 4,043 in 2023. The growth on 2022 is impressive: +72%. Spanish market also grew a lot: 54% compared to 2022 data, with 3,749 buses registered in 2023. Germany? A 12.5% growth, 5,493 units registered (753 e-buses, growing 20%).

Back to France, it is worth noticing that Iveco Bus is still at the top also without increasing its registrations volume more than 0.5 percent on 2022. Noticeable growth was registered by Mercedes-Benz: +49% on the 2022’s volume. MAN’s registrations, on the other hand, are decreasing 15% compared to 2022.

2023 has been a good year, in France, for Irizar, Volvo, Van Hool and Scania: all these brands have significantly increased their registrations’ volume.
