Hyundai announced the launch of its first electric bus for the Japanese market, the Elec City Town. It’ll be marketed through authorized dealers by the end of 2024. This move marks Hyundai’s expansion of its electric vehicle lineup tailored to meet the demands of Japanese bus operators.

Hyundai Elec City Town debuts in Japan

The Hyundai Elec City Town battery-electric bus, 9-meter long and able to accomodate up to 54 passengers (18 of those seated), is equipped with lithium-ion batteries providing a driving range of over 200 kilometers, the OEM states. Powered by a ZF central motor, the bus features Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) and Emergency Driver Support System (EDSS), which cater to the high safety expectations of Japanese bus operators.

Hyundai offers comprehensive after-sales services, including a 10-year repair and replacement service for the windshield and side mirrors, and a 5-year tire puncture service.

Hyundai has a history of serving the Japanese market since 2009 with its large touring bus, Universe. In recent years, Hyundai has launched a fuel cell bus in Japan, while its BEV bus range has so far been on the South Korean market.
