TMB Barcelona has been awarded a further 21.24 million euros of Next Generation EU subsidies for the purchase of zero-emission buses. They’ll be used to procure 36 hydrogen buses, 23 electric buses and two trains.

The total subsidies that TMB will receive from the European Funds, allocated to local authorities, is 61.73 million euros, which will have an impact on an investment of 131.24 million euros.

Next Generation EU for TMB zero emission buses

The resolution, that follows the second call for applications, was published this week by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (MITMA).

In the first call for applications (MITMA 2021), TMB received grants totalling 40.49 million euros for the purchase of 105 electric buses, on-board bus video surveillance and the digitisation of metro information systems, among others.

Within TMB’s Strategic Plan 2025, the carrier plans to have 25% of the fleet zero emissions by 2024. Next year, TMB is expected to have 232 electric buses and 44 hydrogen buses in operation.
