Inside VinFast’s Hanoi ecosystem, where VinBus operates 600 e-buses (out of 2,000 running in Vietnam)

Around 2,000 VinFast electric buses are operating in Vietnam today, including roughly 600 vehicles run directly by sister company VinBus, which have completed roughly 73 million km at the end of 2025.
We are in Hanoi this week for a closer look at VinFast’s electric bus ecosystem, including vehicle production, company’s strategy and product offering. Across the Vietnamese capital, VinFast buses are already a widespread presence within the urban transport network, operating at scale through the VinBus fleet – and not only, as VinFast buses are deployed also by other carriers (including Transerco).
One interesting aspect of the Vietnamese market is that 6, 8 and 10-meter e-buses are on offer, with 10 meters representing the maximum size commonly used in most city environments. At the same time, VinFast is preparing its entry into the European bus market with the EB 12 and EB 8 models, following the debut at Busworld Europe 2025.

VinFast and VinBus: two brands, one group
VinBus was established in 2019 through an investment of 1,000 billion VND (corresponding to over 32 million euros) and became the first operator to deploy electric buses in Vietnam. The company currently operates five Vietnamite cities including Hanoi, Haiphong and Ho Chi Minh City.
The operational scale becomes visible at the Ocean Park depot in Hanoi, one of three VinBus depots active in the city. The site, that we had the opportunity to visit together with press representatives from all around Europe, covers approximately 10,000 square meters and can host up to 100 electric buses simultaneously.

Charging infrastructure at the depot includes 40 charging units capable of charging up to 80 buses at the same time. The facility also integrates solar panels, maintenance workshops, administrative offices, parking areas equipped with chargers and automated washing systems.
Maintenance procedures are scheduled every 5,000 km based on predefined technical checklists. VinBus also provides maintenance services for VinFast buses operated by third-party operators.

VinFast e-buses between Vietnam and Europe
According to figures shared during the visit, buses average around 260 km of mileage on one charge, being it equipped with a 281 kWh CATL battery (four modules, half on the roof and half in the rear). However, the 12-meter EB12 model that is set for export in Europe features a 422 kWh battery capacity.
VinFast is in fact preparing its European bus market entry following the company’s participation at Busworld Europe 2025, and more recently at Mobility Move and BUS2BUS.
The initial European rollout is expected to begin with the EB 12 model, already homologated for the European market, while the EB 8 is scheduled to follow within a roadmap aimed at building a complete electric bus range within two years.
VinFast’s initial commercial focus in Europe is expected to target Benelux countries and Germany. The company has already established offices in Amsterdam, Paris and Frankfurt, alongside a spare parts logistics hub in the Netherlands.
