New on-demand transit player Argo is set to launch for the first time its intelligent, all-electric public transit system in Bradford West Gwillimbury (BWG), Ontario (Canada).

Starting in early 2025, BWG residents can use Argo’s mobile app to get door-to-door rides anywhere in town at regular transit fares, Argo states. The service will connect directly with Ontario’s GO trains.

Argo: a new player in the on-demand transit world

What is Argo? According to expert Lukas Foljanty‘s latest “On-Demand Transit 2024 Market Report“, Argo stands among the most interesting new launches expected from the DRT market in 2025 as it promises to make public transit […] faster than driving a car but as affordable as taking the bus“. The on-demand transport market sees Via as the global leader with around 24% market share, still according to Foljanty’s data.

Well, in the company’s own words, Argo “combines electric vehicles and smart-routing technology to create better public transit. Residents can book door-to-door rides through an easy-to-use mobile app, with guaranteed connections to GO trains and local buses. The system adjusts to demand in real-time, reducing wait times and making transit more reliable than driving”.

Argo was founded by former leaders from Tesla, Uber, and other top tech companies. Since September 2024, Argo School has successfully provided reliable transportation for a series of Greater Toronto Area (GTA) private schools.

The assumpion behind Argo is the following: “Today, 50 percent of commuting time is spent on 10 percent of the distance due to time spent walking, biking, or driving to the nearest transit line and then waiting for the next scheduled stop. By picking people up at their door via its simple on-demand app, Argo will eliminate the need to walk or wait, driving increased ridership to existing transit lines and taking cars off the road”.

“Argo’s intelligent, all-electric system will transform mobility in BWG, making public transit more convenient than driving while remaining as affordable as taking the bus,” said Praveen Arichandran, co-CEO and co-founder of Argo. “Together with BWG Council and regional partners, we’re delivering a transit model that connects people to opportunity and sets a standard for cities worldwide.”
