On-demand transit solutions provider Argo Corporation announces the rollout of its Smart Routing transit system in Bradford West Gwillimbury (BWG), Ontario.
This initiative, announced earlier this year and operational since 7th April, provides residents with an easy-to-use app that allows them to request a ride near their door for a standard transit fare, with Smart Routes dynamically adding stops based on rider demand. Argo Transit is set to replace BWG’s existing fixed bus routes in the coming months.
Argo launches on-demand transit in Ontario
Argo’s vertically integrated transit solution in BWG is powered by Argo X1 electric vehicles (provided by Turkish Karsan), intelligent Smart Routing software, and comprehensive operational management in a single end-to-end system, the company states.
What is Argo? According to expert Lukas Foljanty‘s latest “On-Demand Transit 2024 Market Report“, Argo stands among the most interesting new launches expected from the DRT market in 2025 as it promises to make public transit […] faster than driving a car but as affordable as taking the bus“. The on-demand transport market sees Via as the global leader with around 24% market share, still according to Foljanty’s data.
Well, in the company’s own words, Argo “combines electric vehicles and smart-routing technology to create better public transit. Residents can book door-to-door rides through an easy-to-use mobile app, with guaranteed connections to GO trains and local buses. The system adjusts to demand in real-time, reducing wait times and making transit more reliable than driving”.
Back to the BWG project, “Our launch in Bradford West Gwillimbury represents the debut of a new category of urban mobility,” said Praveen Arichandran, CEO and co-founder of Argo. “Together with BWG Council and regional partners, we’re showcasing Canadian innovation on a global stage, delivering a transit model that connects people to opportunity and sets a standard for cities worldwide.”
“This is a landmark day for Bradford West Gwillimbury,” said Mayor James Leduc. “Being the first community worldwide to deploy Argo’s vertically integrated Smart Routing transit solution demonstrates our leadership in innovation and our commitment to improving residents’ quality of life.”
