The Grid-eMotion Fleet charging infrastructure system by Hitachi ABB Power Grids has been chosen to provide energy to the electric bus fleet in Swedish Västerås, where a batch of 10 to 17 e-buses from Volvo is set to be delivered during 2021.

Hitachi ABB Power Grids (which is set to become Hitachi Energy since October 2021) announced that it has won an order to supply its Grid-eMotion Fleet smart-charging infrastructure solution to the city. The contract was awarded by Holmbergs EL AB who will deliver the project to public transport operator, Svealandstrafiken AB.

When it comes to the bus-related sector, Hitachi ABB Power Grids acts as a supplier of charging infrastructures for e-buses, with a recent agreement being reached with the UK-based startup Arrival. The company is sponsor of the Sustainable Bus Tour 2021 and has taken part to the webinar “The electric depot. Charging and managing large e-bus fleets”.

The transition to an electrified transportation sector is key to accelerating Sweden’s carbon-neutral energy future. The Swedish government is driving to reduce transportation emissions by 70 percent by 2030 (compared to 2010) as part of its bid to achieve its Paris Agreement commitment of net zero emissions by 2045 at the latest.
