The order is supported by Federal Transit Administration funds and advances NYCT\u2019s goal to reduce New York City\u2019s carbon footprint through sustainable public transportation.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In early March 2019 the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sustainable-bus.com\/hybrid\/new-york-goes-hybrid-bus-major-order-for-165-hybrid-buses-with-nova-bus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">public transport authority\u00a0<strong>MTA<\/strong>\u00a0awarded\u00a0<strong>Nova Bus\u00a0<\/strong>with a major contract for no less than 165 hybrid buses<\/a>. In late 2019,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sustainable-bus.com\/electric-bus\/electric-buses-in-new-york-mta-the-first-articulated-hits-the-road\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MTA rolled out the first 18-meter zero emission bus in New York<\/a>\u00a0(from New Flyer) on one of the city\u2019s busiest crosstown routes \u2013 the 14th Street busway \u2013 as part of the agency\u2019s plan to enhance and modernize the bus fleet.\u00a0<strong>15 articulated electric buses are bound to hit New York roads<\/strong>, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sustainable-bus.com\/electric-bus\/15-new-flyer-articulated-zero-emission-buses-for-new-york\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the order signed in March 2019<\/a>. In early 2020 it was announced than<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sustainable-bus.com\/electric-bus\/new-york-state-24-million-dollars-funding-to-replace-old-ice-buses-with-electric-ones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> $24 million fundings are available to replace diesel-powered transit buses with new all-electric transit buses in the state of New York<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New electric bus order in New York<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The order is in <strong>addition to 15 battery-electric buses previously delivered to NYCT by New Flyer<\/strong>. The NYCT and the MTA Bus Company comprise the largest transit agency in North America. MTA serves an estimated 8.5 million citizens and more than 60 million visitors with 678 million bus rides annually, and is one of seven transit agencies in New York State to purchase zero-emission buses from New Flyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor more than 25 years, we delivered over 2,990 buses and 1,170 coaches to the MTA,\u201d said <strong>Chris Stoddart<\/strong>, President, North American Bus and Coach. \u201cWith these additional high-performance zero-emission Xcelsior CHARGE NG buses, <strong>we are expanding sustainable mobility in New York City and the surrounding boroughs and delivering cleaner air through immediate greenhouse gas reductions<\/strong>.
