Today the\u00a0city of\u00a0Jaworzno in Poland will start testing the\u00a0Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen bus. The\u00a0trials will last four weeks. Local transport operator PKM\u00a0Jaworzno wants to\u00a0learn all\u00a0about what the\u00a0deployment of\u00a0hydrogen has\u00a0to offer in\u00a0urban transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Operator PKM\u00a0Jaworzno and\u00a0Solaris Bus\u00a0& Coach have been continuously collaborating for\u00a021 years now. So\u00a0far, over 80 Urbino buses sporting the\u00a0operator\u2019s distinctive colours have been plying the\u00a0streets of\u00a0the city, of\u00a0which over half are\u00a0zero-emission electric vehicles. In\u00a02022, the\u00a0company will be\u00a0operating a\u00a0staggering 50 e-buses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PKM Jaworzno, innovations in public transport<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

PKM Jaworzno has been introducing various innovations, which are then later eagerly taken up by other towns and cities. Cashless fare payment systems, Wi-Fi Internet and USB charging ports are already standard equipment for the carrier\u2019s fleet. Positive experiences with the mass operation of buses that use new drive technology have contributed to the rapid development of e-mobility in Poland, Solaris underlines in its press note. One electric bus in Jaworzno drives up to 100,000 km yearly and provides passenger transport services of up to 400 km daily<\/strong>. What is more, vehicles of this type have already covered over 11 million kilometres in total, having proved that with suitable traction battery capacities, and an appropriate number of charging stations, an e-bus may successfully replace a diesel bus in service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to the Urbino 12 hydrogen, Jaworzno will be able to gain invaluable experience regarding the use of this advanced technology. The test\u2019s aim is to determine real-world hydrogen consumption during intensive operation of the bus with passengers on board<\/strong>, as well as to estimate the necessary frequency and time of refuelling. The vehicle\u2019s behaviour in low temperatures will also be tested. The trials will show if this technology can be applied in future as the next step in the development of completely green public transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Solaris hydrogen bus on a test in Jaworzno<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0bus is\u00a0to be\u00a0put in\u00a0service, among other places, on\u00a0the most commonly used routes in\u00a0Jaworzno, connecting the\u00a0largest residential districts of\u00a0the city. It\u00a0will operate 7 days a\u00a0week, all\u00a0day long, above all\u00a0on bus\u00a0routes 303 and\u00a0307. This will provide numerous possibilities to\u00a0travel on\u00a0this unique vehicle and\u00a0to learn more about hydrogen technology. Hydrogen refilling will take place at\u00a0a mobile station run\u00a0by industrial company AirProducts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was\u00a0very glad to\u00a0hear that the\u00a0possibilities of\u00a0this state-of-the-art vehicle will be\u00a0put on\u00a0trial in\u00a0Jaworzno, a\u00a0city which is\u00a0an excellent example of\u00a0the successful implementation of\u00a0e-mobility in\u00a0public transport. The\u00a0tests will last four weeks, which will enable the\u00a0city to\u00a0thoroughly acquaint itself with all\u00a0the functionalities that the\u00a0Urbino 12 hydrogen offers for\u00a0everyday urban traffic. Let\u00a0us recall that Jaworzno was\u00a0a trailblazer when it\u00a0comes to\u00a0fleet electrification in\u00a0Poland and\u00a0it is\u00a0even by\u00a0European standards. Now, it\u00a0has a\u00a0chance to\u00a0become a\u00a0leader in\u00a0hydrogen technology, another advanced technology for\u00a0the zero-emission transport of\u00a0the future. I\u00a0believe that today nobody doubts any\u00a0more that in\u00a0the modern world hydrogen is\u00a0one of\u00a0the key\u00a0pillars in\u00a0public transport\u2019s transformation,\u201d said Petros Spinaris<\/strong>, member of\u00a0the Management Board of\u00a0Solaris Bus\u00a0& Coach sp. z\u00a0o.o. for\u00a0Sales, Marketing and\u00a0After Sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is\u00a0very important to\u00a0us that Jaworzno be\u00a0perceived as\u00a0a place that supports new\u00a0technologies and\u00a0is open to\u00a0investors and\u00a0new residents. Efficient public transport is\u00a0a pivotal aspect when it\u00a0comes to\u00a0the functioning of\u00a0the urban organism. According to\u00a0regularly conducted public opinion surveys, local residents appreciate the\u00a0high quality of\u00a0our transport services. Over 80 percent of\u00a0the city\u2019s inhabitants use\u00a0public transport and\u00a088 percent approve of\u00a0the introduction and\u00a0development of\u00a0the local electric vehicle fleet,\u201d says Pawe\u0142 Silbert<\/strong>, mayor of\u00a0Jaworzno.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur company\u2019s first e-bus is\u00a0already 7 years old<\/strong>. We\u00a0constantly need to\u00a0remember to\u00a0renew our\u00a0vehicle fleet and\u00a0are looking for\u00a0the most efficient technologies in\u00a0this regard. We\u00a0hope that the\u00a0experience gathered during the\u00a0trials will enable us\u00a0to successfully apply for\u00a0external funding for\u00a0further fleet modernisation.
