Mainly known among Sustainable Bus’ pages for its electric bus products (both battery-electric and trolleybuses), Solaris Bus & Coach is also active in the field of gas-powered buses<\/strong>. And Tallin, capital city of Estonia, has just issued a large order for as many as 100 Solaris Urbino CNG<\/strong>. The vehicles will be delivered in the last four months of 2020. In late 2018, RATP Paris signed a framework agreement for 48 Urbino CNG<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Already 50 zero-emission vehicles by Solaris are running in Tallin: they’re trolleybuses equipped with IMC technology. As a result of this last order,\u00a0Estonia will become the\u00a014th European country to\u00a0which Solaris will deliver its\u00a0compressed natural gas\u00a0buses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\"solaris\n

Tallin to receive 12-meter and articulated buses<\/h2>\n

Among the buses that Solaris will supply to\u00a0Tallinna Linnatranspordi AS\u00a0operator, 60 are\u00a0Solaris Urbino 12 vehicles, another 40 are\u00a0Solaris Urbino 18 articulated buses.<\/p>\n

A mega order from Tallinn, covering the\u00a0delivery of\u00a0100 low-floor city buses powered by\u00a0compressed natural gas<\/strong>, is\u00a0the second largest, one-off contract for\u00a0vehicles of\u00a0this type won\u00a0by the\u00a0Polish manufacturer. The\u00a0tender, with a\u00a0total value of\u00a0EUR 27 million<\/strong>, will be\u00a0carried out\u00a0between September and\u00a0November 2020.<\/p>\n

The heart of\u00a0the new\u00a0vehicles, in\u00a0both the\u00a012 and\u00a018 meter versions, will be\u00a0a 239 kW\u00a0engine adapted to\u00a0work with compressed natural gas\u00a0(CNG) fuel<\/strong>. It\u00a0will be\u00a0equipped with a\u00a0cold start function that facilitates starting at\u00a0low outside temperatures. The\u00a0drive system will be\u00a0complemented by\u00a0an automatic gearbox that ensures optimal driving comfort for\u00a0drivers and\u00a0passengers. The\u00a0CNG gas\u00a0storage cylinders will be\u00a0located on\u00a0the roof of\u00a0the vehicles in\u00a0their front part. For\u00a0both Urbino 12 and\u00a0Urbino 18 it\u00a0will comprise 5 cylinders with a\u00a0capacity of\u00a0315 liters each.<\/p>\n\"solaris\n

Up to 150 passengers on Urbino CNG 18<\/h2>\n

The ordered Solaris Urbino CNG vehicles will have a\u00a0high passenger capacity. The\u00a0Urbino 12 will be\u00a0able to\u00a0accommodate over 80 passengers at\u00a0a time<\/strong>, including 31 in\u00a0seating position. 12 of\u00a0the seats will be\u00a0available from a\u00a0low floor level. Urbino 18, in\u00a0turn, will take up\u00a0to 150 people on\u00a0board<\/strong>, 41 seated. In\u00a0articulated vehicles, 16 seats will be\u00a0available from the\u00a0low floor, making it\u00a0easier for\u00a0people with reduced mobility to\u00a0take up\u00a0their seat.<\/p>\n

Both versions of\u00a0the vehicles will also be\u00a0equipped with a\u00a0number of\u00a0solutions improving the\u00a0comfort of\u00a0passengers on\u00a0board. There will be\u00a0e.g. an\u00a0efficient air-conditioning and\u00a0dual USB\u00a0sockets between the\u00a0seats in\u00a0each row\u00a0– in\u00a0Urbino 12 there will be\u00a0a total of\u00a017 of\u00a0them, while in\u00a0the articulated version – as\u00a0many as\u00a022. The\u00a0equipment of\u00a0the vehicles will also include a\u00a0passenger information system with internal and\u00a0external voice announcement of\u00a0stops and\u00a0a CCTV monitoring system consisting of\u00a05 internal cameras, as\u00a0well as\u00a0head direction and\u00a0reversing cameras.<\/p>\n

Buses will feature the\u00a0detection system and\u00a0a refueling supervision system, enabling safe supervision of\u00a0the amount of\u00a0refueled and\u00a0used fuel.
